Three Reasons to Eat Breakfast

Three Reasons to Eat Breakfast

Did you grow up hearing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? I did, it was something my Mom really hammered into my brother and I. Something she learned from her Mom before there was knowledge of how exactly the body works. They did not need science to know that when you skip breakfast or eat something sugary that your body cannot function at its highest level.

So, incase you need some reasons to believe what your Momma or Grandma used to tell you, here are Three Reasons to Eat Breakfast.

  1. Your Body Needs Fuel

I recently heard it being compared to not putting put fuel in your vehicle and expecting it to get you to town. If you start your vehicle on empty, and I am talking completely empty, not with 20 miles left on the MPE, your vehicle it is not going anywhere. It is the same with your body! Great analogy right!?

  1. Skipping Stresses Your Body

I think we all have enough stress in this world, skipping breakfast is unnecessary stress on our already over worked bodies. Because your body is so amazing, unlike the vehicle, it will try and try to get you down the road even when on empty. However, that does come at a cost, to keep you going your body will start to pump out cortisol and adrenaline that are stress hormones. Just imagine the damage to your vehicle if you continually ran it completely out of fuel! It probably would not last you 300k miles, instead something would breakdown and you would have to buy a new one. That’s not something you can do with your body.

  1. Kickstarts Your Day in the Right Gear

Okay, I might be taking this vehicle analogy a little far, but it just makes so much sense! Breakfast does not have to be complicated, but it is like putting your vehicle in drive. You would not put it in reverse to go forward. Put your body in drive to kick your day off in the right gear and eat a good breakfast full of nutrients, protein, and healthy fats!

Bonus! One more vehicle analogy for you. If you drive a gas vehicle, what happens if you put diesel in it and try to start it? It completely ruins your vehicle, a lot of things break and are super expensive to fix, if they can be fixed. Basically, you know to be very careful not to put diesel in a gas vehicle.

Your body is your one and only vehicle! What you fuel your body with matters, if you start your day with sugary foods that have been sold to you as “breakfast” then you’re not going to get very far. It will be like putting your truck in reverse when you want to go forward. Skip the muffins, pastries, and sugary cereals that are truly desserts, and eat some bacon/sausage and eggs. I promise you will feel better for it and your body will thank you!

100 years ago, they may not have had the advancements in technology and science like we do now. They did however pay attention to their bodies and were able to tell that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Important, not only that you eat it, but also what you eat for it.
